Roxy Music: For Your Pleasure
Live at the Apollo, 2001. From the album For Your Pleasure (1973).
And in the Clyde Auditorium, Glasgow, this year.
Over the years, this music has assumed a somewhat different meaning from when it was first created in the early ’70s; cf. this performance, which most critics would significantly and in my view wrongly prefer. Even the name of the band has done so. My essay on Ferry and Roxy (in Swedish) explains some of the reasons why. The early Roxy songs are now performed, and, above all, we now experience their performance, against the background or in the light of the whole of Ferry’s development.
