En humanistisk klassicism – Ornament, färg och materialitet i kooperativa bostadsområden i Stockholm 1915-1930 ger en historisk introduktion till 1920-talets progressiva bostadskooperation i Stockholm och till den estetik som formade dess arkitektur.

Under perioden 1915-1930 skapades en rad småskaliga och pittoreska stadsdelar i Stockholm. De bebyggdes främst av de då nystartade bostadskooperationerna HSB och SKB. Många av de framsteg som tillskrivs funktionalismens genombrott sker redan på 1910- och 20-talet i dessa kooperativa bostadsområden. Här byggs överkomliga bostäder för arbetare med alla moderniteter, nytänkande produktion och högsta standard. Arkitekterna lägger också stor vikt vid att skapa trivsel genom färgsättning, ornament, materialitet, stora planterade gårdar och vindlande gator. Det är en klassicism i mänsklig skala. I humanismens anda tar man sitt öde i egna händer. Slående är hur snabbt utbyggnaden går, och att billiga bostäder byggs med både hög teknisk standard och höga konstnärliga ambitioner. Dessa stadsdelar har ett ytterst progressivt innehåll, men ges en klassisk dräkt.

“Ich erinnere mich immer noch emotional sehr genau, als ich den Song ‘Age of Madness’ zum ersten Mal hörte: Es war auf dem Jane Konzert im April 1978 vor ca. 4000 Fans in der Stadthalle Bremen. Es war der Opening-Song. Die Halle ganz dunkel und nur ein Spot auf [keyboardist] Manfred Wieczorke gerichtet – er wirkte in seinem weissen Gewand cool und völlig abgespaced. Die hatten damals mit Quadrophonie P.A. gearbeitet, daher dröhnten die Synthies aus alle vier Hallenecken. Dieses Intro hat mich total geflashed. Dann ging der Song los und die Band erschien in Nebel und spacigem Bühnenlicht. Die LP kam erst eine Woche später in die Plattenläden, daher kannte noch niemand den Song auf dem Konzert. Ein Wahnsinns-Opening und nie wieder hatte die Band eine so große Bühnentechnik. Die 78er Tour war der Höhepunkt von Jane – unvergesslich!”
